Facilitator Training for King Hintsa TVET College Lecturers

King Hintsa TVET College held a successful three-day Facilitator Training held from 28–30 January 2026, aimed at strengthening lecturer capacity in preparation for the implementation of new Occupational Qualifications that are being introduced by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET).

The training brought together all college lecturers and focused on equipping them with the necessary facilitation, assessment, and evaluation skills required in the evolving TVET landscape. These skills are essential as the TVET sector continues to respond to changing labour market demands through the rollout of Occupational Programmes.

The programme was officially opened by the College Acting Principal, Mr D. Shabangu, who expressed his appreciation to lecturers for their continued commitment to academic excellence. In his address, he emphasised the college’s role in serving rural and disadvantaged communities, stating that all college programmes must have a meaningful impact in uplifting the communities they serve.

The NQF Level 5 training covered a range of learning outcomes over the three days.

Day 1

  • To recognise competence in facilitating learning using a variety of methodologies
  • Lecturers will be able to plan, facilitate, and evaluate learning
  • Assessment is outcomes-based and evidence-driven

Day 2

  • Select appropriate facilitation methods
  • Facilitate learning coherently
  • Promote participation and self-learning

Day 3

  • Collect feedback
  • Evaluate facilitation effectiveness
  • Use reviews to improve practice

The training was formally closed by the Deputy Principal: Academics, Ms Zengele, who thanked the lecturers and facilitators for their dedication and active participation. She highlighted the importance of continuous professional development in ensuring quality teaching and learning, noting that the training would contribute significantly to improving and developing lecturer competence across the college.

The Facilitator Training marks another important step in the college’s commitment to academic excellence, lecturer development, and delivering relevant, high-quality education that responds to both community and industry needs.
